Ernest Hemingway was an extraordinary writer. His works are worthy of reading with the current geopolitical and social events as a backdrop.
You might consider reading them just before or after significant events. For example, when hearing podcasters who believe they are better than others. Or, when you observe people ridiculing others. Or, when you compare yourself with others.
I “follow” no one in the current information sharing; I listen to many. I sort the information that resonates from the information that does not. I believe I know a lot; I know that I know far less than what I have yet to know.
We can all learn so much from observing others. We can learn even more from observing ourselves. If we improve ourselves as a result of those observations, we build a noble character. If we think we know what is right for someone else, we delude ourselves and miss the real truth of that other person.

I have participated in sweat lodges at several Spiritual events. It is not my favorite activity. One time, I was particularly uncomfortable.
I decided to meditate, which, for me, usually starts by focusing on my breath. This time, I counted my breaths in an unusual way. For example, 5 counts in, hold for 3 counts, 7 counts out, hold for 3, 6 out, 4 in.
Wow, it calmed me instantly! I have known and taught many approaches to relaxation and meditation, and I thought I had developed a magical sequence.
My first instinct was to share it with others. With a silent laugh, I stopped myself just in time!
I recognized the power was not in a magical SEQUENCE of numbers, but in the full attention I gave to my breathing. The focus accomplished what I wanted: to be more comfortable. My inner laughter dissolved the rest of the discomfort.
Meditation is a simple, easy, life-enriching practice, with no hurdles to jump, no miraculous feats to perform, no complications needed. Meditation is about uplifting ...
